バイオならびに情報科学関連分野の研究動向調査

研究概要

我が国におけるバイオ（生命科学）や情報科学分野での研究活動は、他の先進国同様アクティビティーが高く維持されている。さらに、研究者数、投入される予算の規模については、他の自然科学分野よりも重点的に配分されることも多く、専門外の人々にとってはその成果について期待されるところは大きい。メディア等でその成果の一部が公表されることもあるが、一般の人々の目に触れる研究成果の量は、上記の事情を考慮すると十分であるとはいい難い。この問題の解決には、分野外の人には理解しづらい専門用語でコミュニケーションが図られる「学会」とは異なり、分野外の人の参加を念頭に置いた情報交換の機会を地域レベルで設けることが必要と考えられる。

そこで、本研究班では情報、バイオに関連する構成員だけでなく、幅広い分野の研究者が参加する「生命・情報科学懇話会（代表：井内善臣）」を立ち上げ、各大学で行われているバイオや情報分野の研究成果について情報交換、意見交換の機会を設けた。当該分野の研究動向について探るとともに、一般の人々を対象とした研究成果の情報発信のモデルとなる開かれた研究会の運営方法について検討を行った。

生命・情報科学懇話会では、本研究期間中、合計６回の定例研究会と、１回の市民向け講演会を下記の通り開催した。

定例研究会の参加者は、構成員を主とした研究者あるいは所属大学や高専でテーマに関心を持つ研究者であったが、それぞれが専門とする分野は多岐にわたっており、各講演者は予備知識を持たない人に向けて自らの研究成果を紹介するために、レジュメやプレゼンテーション資料等に様々な工夫を行った。さらに、十分な質疑の時間を取ることが必要と考えられ、全ての定例研究会において講演時間と同程度の時間が質疑に費やされた。質疑時間の十分な確保により、専門家である講演者も気づかなかったような疑問が発見されることもしばしば見受けられ、分野外の人々を対象とした講演会での質疑時間の重要性が改めて認識された。

市民向け講演会は生命科学のなかでも、最近のニュースでも取り上げられたトピックスを選び、関心のある一般の方への情報発信の機会を設けた結果、多数の参加者を得ることができ、大変好評であった。この市民向け講演会と同時に、本共同研究の報告会も開催し、研究班の代表申請者の芝崎が「バイオインフォマティクス」についての研究動向についての現状と分析について報告した。

本研究会の実施を定期的に開催するにあたり、兵庫県立大学の施設の中でも、参加者が集まりやすく交通の便がよい会場を利用することができたのが、継続性を維持する要因となったと考えている（市民向け講演会のみユニティ講義室で開催）。複数の分野の研究者による情報交換の場の試みは、研究期間終了後も継続されている。この研究会がきっかけで、新しい共同研究が生まれたケースもあり、単に情報発信に終わることなく一定の成果が得られたといえる。今後、市民への研究活動のコミュニケーター的役割を意識した運営には、市民向け講演会をさらに発展させ、対象者を絞ってテーマを設定して行くことが有効であると考えられる。
