チャールズ・ディケンズの『クリスマス・キャロル』を読む
守銭奴のスクルージがクリスマスイヴに過去・現在・未来のクリス マスの精霊と出会い、一晩の内に改心する『クリスマス・キャロル』は、 ディケンズの代表作ですが、一般に考えられているような子ども向け のファンタスティックな教訓物語というだけではありません。作品の 抜粋を読みながら、長編にも通じるディケンズ小説の様々な魅力を明 らかにしたいと思います。

心あふれる後期の作品までを読む。作品世界の振幅は大きいが、そこから今日にも通じる問題意識を読み取ることができるだろう。

アメリカ女性作家短編小説講読
アメリカの短編小説を読みます。時代、人物描写、表現などに注意しながらクラス前半は精読、後半はディスカッション、そして音 読にも挑戦したいと思います。テキストは女性作家の作品 3 編 Kate Chopin, "A Story of an Hour" (1894)、Flannery O'Connor, "Everything That Rises Must Converge" (1965)、Yiyun Li, "Princess Nebraska" (2007)です。作品を読むことで様々な発 見があればと思います。テキストはプリントで配布します。
